Venetian Plaster
An ancient material employed to solve modern problems facing Renaissance Venice in the 1500s.
Today, it is finding its place once again as an ancient solution to issues we face today. Not only is it beautiful and durable - it also plays an active role in carbon reduction, is made from entirely natural components, and, due to its very high pH, the surface prevents mold and mildew, along with being a hellscape for the survival of microbes and viruses.
An ancient product and process developed in Northern Africa (Morocco in particular) which resulted in a lime-plaster finish that was waterproof and thus suitable for wet-areas such as baths and fountains (and today’s bathrooms, showers, steam rooms and kitchens). From an Arabic root meaning “to rub in,” this form of plastering became world-renown for its beauty, durability, and use in humid and wet environments.

Carbon Neutral
Compared to materials such as cement, the production of Lime-based Venetian Plaster produces 20% fewer carbon emissions. It goes so much further, though! Your beautiful walls, ceilings and floors actually absorb CO2 from the atmosphere as it cures at levels that render it carbon neutral, further increasing your contribution to a better environment. Including lime plaster in a project contributes to credits toward LEED and other green building certifications.
No VOCs & Antimicrobial
Lime-based Venetian Plasters are all natural and produce no harmful fumes. You can rest assured that invisible pollutants or toxic chemicals are not lurking in your home, potentially harming your family. Natural Venetian Plaster is also anti-microbial. Due to the high pH level, bacteria and fungi cannot take root, meaning a healthier home, business, and family.
Non-Flammable
Ventian Plaster is made of rocks. In fact, once applied, it cures back to solid rock. It does not burn, and provides a level of safety in your home or business, reducing the amount of fuel available to fires, and thus the amount of heat and destruction that can occur while providing valuable time for people to get to safety.
Resilient & Long-Lasting
Unlike paint or tile, Venetian Plaster dries and cures to a rock-hard surface. Though it is incredibly solid, it is also flexible, resisting cracks or other issues facing alternative wall coatings such as paint. For this reason, Venetian Plaster is referred to as self-healing, moving with the changes in the structure of the building.
